Very scary, and somehting a user should NEVER have to do. I had to get tech support to email me instructions to un-install the old stuff using terminal commands in the OS.

Part of the problem with the drivers is that when you re-load them, or go to a newer driver in hopes of fixing your problems, it simply does not not un-install the old driver components, causing all SORTS of havoc. 2496 was the first and last m-audio product i will ever buy.

Sorry this doesn't answer your question - I'll be continuing to search for answers for myself, but it may be about waiting for another software update for you - for me it's more likely to be about doing a fresh install of 10.3.9 and going back to what I know works - I don't have any good reason to stay with Tiger I can think of with my G4.ĭitto on Everlasting's sentiments. I put this down to my still using Logic Pro 6.4.3 in Tiger - having read various threads here or maybe it was on Sonik that argued it was unrealistic to think that 6.4.3 was going to work properly inside the Tiger.Īlso - while accepting that M-Audio does not and cannot compare to RME - I should say that I've never had any previous problems like this and never regretted buying a card that was always at the cheaper end of the spectrum - it's done me proud for many years for what it is. So I just restart and I can have no problems for days - then it starts up again, often for no apparent reason.Īctually using the card with just iTunes doesn't seem to trigger the problem - or at least not very often - whereas using Logic does. What happens with me seems to be "time" based in the sense that when playing back a 3 minute long track the first minute will be fine, then it gets progressively worse for about ten seconds and then it levels out at a point where it's way too loud to be listen-able. I came here specifically to hunt for some kind of explanation to exactly this problem with my 2496 - i.e.

NOW PLEASE TELL ME SOMEONE HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, AND SOLVED IT!

changed it back to the newely installed M-audio device again (this was done using the page "sound and midi-settings")īy the way, the cracks and pops in the sound is completely synchronous with the video playback as I am trying to watch a movie or a clip in Quicktime.Īnd this driver is the latest from M-audio, supposed to work in MAC OSX 10.4.2 or later. tried to reactivate the onboard-audio wich worked!Ĩ. downloaded the 2.0.5 version and installed.ħ. downloaded the latest driver at that time(2.0.4)ĥ. Then I uninstalled the 2.0.4 and downloaded the latest 2.0.5 version, witch just won´t let me play any sound that does not crack and pop completely.Ģ. I first installed the 2.0.4 version driver and the sound went to distorted from time to time. The problem regards a M-audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard. After all, I have not owned a single computer that did not hassle and give me the most uncomprehenssive problems, even to experts in local PC stores. Now, I shouldn´t seem so surprised that my first mac has problems. This is quite simply the whole reason to my recent purchase of A PowerMac G5 dual 1.8 Ghz (powermac version 7.3, G5 cpu v.3.0) with preinstalled OSX 10.4.3. But I am told installing the soundcard and setting up outputs n inputs should be nothing but childsplay running MAC and OSX.

New to mac I am, and severely disoriented.
